May/June Expenses

It’s been a while, but we are back with our expenses post for May and June.

May

Show season is in full swing and we went to one rodeo, two barrel races this month, two days to ride at the saddle club, and two lessons, for about 7.5 hours of total driving and a little over 300 miles. The entry fee for the rodeo was $60 while the two barrel races were both $35. I pre-paid for four lessons, totaling $120.

Reno and Stinger both got their shoes reset at the beginning of May, and Stinger got his Equioxx prescription refilled (listed under ‘Vet Bills’).

We restocked another load of sawdust this month and I took advantage of a sale at Home Depot and bought a fan for Reno. I got one last year for Stinger with the same deal, where you buy the battery and charger set and get a free item (which I picked the fan). These are easy to hang in their stall or the trailer and do not need to be plugged in, but they still have that option. Plus, a loan payment for Reno.

June

May was slowed by the rain, but June wasn’t, as the over 15 hours of driving and 700 miles shows. We went to four rodeos, one barrel race, and two lessons. The entry fees for the rodeos ranged from $60 to $80 each this month and $25 for the barrel race. My half of the gas to get everywhere was about $150. (Note: I did not include road trips snacks in this cost breakdown lol)

I got six total bags of feed throughout June and restocked my gastric supplement. I won a $25 gift card when our local Rural King had their grand opening, so I only had to pay $36 on a new rodeo shirt (plus it was on sale) and fly spray. I also had to get more poultice and liniment after I used all of the stuff I already had. I also finally bought back boots to match my blue front ones, but they were free when I used credit card points to pay for them. (They would have been $116 with tax). Rounding out the end of the month was another loan payment and shoes getting reset again.
